Ethical Sustainability

All our wood is grown in the UK by sustainably managed British woodland. Our wood-based fuel is 'Ready to Burn', ‘Made in Britain’ and 'Woodsure' accredited, assuring high quality standards across our processes, all the way through to our end-products and always with a focus on ethical sustainability.

Additionally, 100% of our wood is used, having installed a new shredder and screener, all the oversized offcuts can now be fed into our boilers to create further energy.

Even the leftover ash from the biomass boilers is used on the land as a fertilizer or goes into aggregate manufacture.

We produce 16 megawatts of heat from our biomass boilers, and we are generating 90% of our own electricity, with 700Kw batteries and 275Kw of solar power, demonstrating our commitment to environmentally friendly practices.

British Made

Unlike many of the kiln-dried wood you find at some stores, 100% our firewood is sourced in Britain with over 60% of our wood coming from the Dalby Forest, which is 8,500 acres within the North Yorkshire Moors. This wood is from mixed hardwood plantations and taken as part of the natural thinning process. The woodlands are responsibly managed and carry the FSC certification.

Therefore, all our wood is sourced within 50 miles of our operation demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

Our Energy Consumption

We are working to reduce the amount of energy we use, and we have invested in more sustainable ways of powering our processing sites. We generate power from our own solar installations and batteries at all our sites and have installed energy efficient LED lighting.

We have electric vehicle charging points for all our staff to use and our fleet of seven vehicles are all EV’s. Additionally, we are currently working towards our production site becoming net zero.

Protecting Our Forests

All our wood is ethically sourced in the UK within a 50-mile radius of the production site, using only FSC approved woodland. 100% of our wood is sourced from the UK.

We help to protect our forests by promoting sustainable forest management through certification. This means we can all benefit from the many products that forests provide, but ensuring these forests will be around for generations to come. The main driving force therefore is to ultimately eliminate illegal forestry where swathes of forestry are destroyed.
