What's the difference between softwood and hardwood?

At Maxchips we think both logs are great when making a fire.
Softwood will start a fire quickly and get some heat into your home, flue and appliance, whereas hardwood will keep the fire going for longer when you've got the heat from your softwood.
In Maxchips mixed softwood we include species such as Pine, Spruce and Larch.
In our mixed hardwood we include Ash, Beech and Oak.
At Maxchips we use only British sourced wood. The UK is actively reforesting through large-scale government initiatives, conservation projects by organisations like the Forestry Commission and Woodland Trust, and private efforts, aiming to combat climate change and biodiversity loss by significantly increasing tree cover. Major projects include the new Western Forest and the Northern Forest, with targets to plant millions of native trees annually to reach net-zero goals and create new woodland area.
